Question
My 14 yr old son's ankle "pops" when he walks or moves his ankle. It normally doesn't hurt but after a lot of walking and "popping" he starts to feel some pain.(not a lot, it is mostly annoying) Is this anything a chiropractor can fix?

Answer
Michelle,

Thanks for the question.  Many times at 14, this occurs due to ligament laxity around the joint, or it is just the fact that your son has a lot of mobility in the joint.  I do recommend that you get it checked out, but there may not be much you can do at this point.

This is something that the child will usually "grow out of".  As he grows, the supporting tissues surrounding the joint will strengthen and tighten and the popping will subside or lessen.  If he is an athlete, it would be a good idea to use preventive measures such as taping or an ankle support when playing and practicing.

Have your chiropractor look at him and see what he thinks.  If you have any more questions, please contact me through allexperts.com.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
