Question
Hello,

I saw a chiropractor and he advised me that my pelvis has shifted out of place and it is really painful on my left hand side particually. I can hardly sit down or stand up too long. Sitting down really hurts. How long does this take to fix as I am 27 years old. No pain killers are working. Thank you.

Answer
Dear Melissa,

I am so sorry that you are having such a terrible time with pain. I know that back pain can be debilitating.

The good news is that often the symptoms will begin to ease up within a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

What you have to watch for, Melissa, is any type of pain that is spreading from the lower back/pelvis region down into the leg on either side. Also watch for any type of muscle weakness in the leg or change of sensitivity of touch in the leg.  These are more neurological signs and could indicate to you and your doctor that you are maybe having something else going on with the back that is more invasive than a subluxation of the pelvis or hips.

I hope that you get better quickly!  Once the pain goes away, make sure that your doctor teaches you some exercises to help insure that it does not come back, and then follow through with regular chiropractic check-ups.

Good luck,
