Question
I am taking my 15 year old daughter to a chiropractor for 20 degree curve in her spine. we have been going for 3 1/2 months we have seen a small degree change after her last x ray.. what I am scared about is she has been having real bad migrines and small allday head aches and she has been seeing alot of floaters in her eyes. She says she has had floaters before chiro and she did have one migrine before chiro but they are coming more often. Am I hurting her more taking her to the chiro?

Answer
Suzanne,

A small degree change?   Is it possible that she simply stood up a little bit better on her own for the follow up x-ray?   Yes. That's the reality of the situation.  It is not a valid system and there is no research to prove that 1) we can really impact the neck curve, 2) that aggressively trying does the patient any good, 3)and even if you did change the curve a little that there would be any symptomatic benefit.   In fact, your question is a commmon one that I address here on AllExperts.com and you can search through and see how frustrating this neck-curve-correction game is for everyone.   That chiropractor, after sucking 3 1/2 months of your dollars, has done no good for your daughter's health.  In fact, some can argue that it is being harmful.   The length and course of care us so unreasonable, that you can run the scenario through your state's chiropractic licensing board to see if they find it a public health threat.  Frankly, I think you should do so.   Get her out of there and find a chiropractor that is evidence-guided and patient-centered in their care.   The reason to see a DC is for neck pain, not to attempt to alter a 20 curve.

Hope this helps,

Dr. G
