Question
I am very interested in Somatics and feel very strongly that with the right practioner I can be healed.  About six months ago I was sitting down in a chair and twisted the wrong way and suffered a severe muscle spasm.  Since then I have had sciatica in my right leg starting on the right side of my back, radiating down into my buttocks and all the way down into my right calf (all on the backside).  It feels like a constant throbbing, shooting, stabbing pain.  I have tried physical therapy, chiropractic, injections etc.  All have taken the pain away temporarily but then it returns.  Also to take into consideration is that I have been lifting weights for the past five years or so.  I also have bicepital tendonitis in both shoulders so I think that is contributing to my sciatica.  I definitely want to be treated by a practioner who is educated in somatics such as yourself, but I cant seem to find one here in the state of Rhode Island.  Can you refer me to a qualified practioner in this state?  And also any advice on my condition would be greatly appreciated.

GOD BLESS YOU

Answer
Hello, Robert,

Basic information on sciatica exists at somatics.com/conditions.htm.

It's possible that your lifting weights has contributed to the muscular tensions creating the sciatica.  Are you musclebound?

For practitioners, click PRACTITIONERS in the blue navigation bar at the Conditions page, above.

Somatic education is a good way to go for sciatica.

Lawrence Gold
