When you're having neck pain, all you want is relief. However, before reaching for the aspirin, it's important to explore causes of your soreness.

Whether you are stressed out, overworked or simply have bad posture, you could be experiencing neck pain. A good massage as well as seeing a chiropractor could help you feel better, but it's necessary to also figure out what's causing your problem so you can prevent it later.

Stress

Getting upset and constantly worrying about whatever pops up can really make you tense and cause neck pain. A good way to deal with such issues is to calm down and try to relax. When you do this, you can soothe your muscles and maybe even relieve some of your aches.

Sleeping positions

Getting a good night's sleep is beneficial for so many reasons. However, if you do more tossing and turning and not enough sleeping, you could wake up with some serious neck pain, or what's also referred to as a crook. This can really hurt and keep you from having a good day the next day. A good mattress could help minimize these issues and also help you stay in more comfortable positions throughout the night.

Strenuous workouts

Working out and getting in shape can be a great goal for many people. And if you're ready to whip your body in shape in a hurry, it's best to proceed with caution. Doing too much too fast can cause neck pain to occur. For example, sit-ups, weight training and more can wreak havoc on your body and if you don't take your time and build up to it, you may be miserable.

Bad posture

If you sit at a computer each day and constantly have your shoulders hunched over, you may not understand why you're hurting. However, bad posture is a common culprit for aches. To help combat such issues, try to be mindful of how you're sitting. Many people don't even realize they're in a bad position. Practice sitting straight each day and if you're forgetful, put a note on your computer to remind you. Furthermore, be sure your desk, computer and keyboard are situated ergonomically.

Car accident

One of the most common reasons for neck pain is if a person has been in a car accident. This can be especially true if hit from behind. That's because when your body experiences trauma like this, you can really throw things out of whack. It can be something as little as a little tweak that's causing you to hurt or a full-blown injury that has you in the hospital for weeks. Big or small, being in an auto accident can really cause lots of aggravation.
