Joint pain, also referred to as arthralgia, commonly occurs due to an injury or a sprain. It is also a common symptom of many health conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, and gout. Furthermore, cold weather conditions can aggravate the pain. The joints that facilitate movement of various parts of the body are sensitive to excess physical pressure and tend to wear out easily. One would usually experience inflammation, redness, or stiffness along with pain. Furthermore, it would also lead to restricted movements and thereby causing a lot of discomfort while performing any activity. Here are some home remedies to get relief from this pain.

Remedy #1
Pack ice cubes or crushed ice in a zip lock bag and wrap it in a towel before placing over the affected joint. Once the swelling is treated, one can make use of the hot therapy. Application of heat would help relieve stiffness and pain, as well as increase the blood flow. Apply heat to the sore joints using a hot pack for not more than 20 minutes, thrice a day or take a warm bath or shower. Warm towels can also be used for the application of heat on the affected joint. One can relax in a hot tub which would thereby relax the joints. Moreover, one can consider adding one of the effective essential oils like lavender oil to the water.

Remedy #2
Use warm olive oil to massage the affected area. Make sure to massage the area gently. Further, massage the aching joints with a camphor rub. To make this, take camphor oil and sunflower oil in equal quantities, mix well, and use.

Remedy #3
Use arnica and ginger topically to treat inflammation and pain. One can also peel and slice 1/2 inch of fresh ginger and include it in one's meal everyday.

Remedy #4
The next remedy is using a potato. Take a potato, grate it, and soak overnight in a bowl of water. Next day, drink the water left after straining the potato. Do this once a day for a few days. One can also have a natural drink made by combining water, honey, and apple cider vinegar to get relief from pain.

Remedy #5
Epsom salt is known to work best in treating pain in the joints. One can add 2-3 cups of Epsom salt to hot bath water and soak oneself for an hour to get relief. Furthermore, one can take 3 tbsp of Epsom salt, 3 tbsp of fresh lemon juice, and 1 pint of warm water and mix well. Take a teaspoon of this mixture twice a day.

Along with the aforementioned natural remedies, one can also opt for physical therapy exercises, which are known to be very effective. It is better to consult a reputed physiotherapist for this.
