Chronic Back Pain Management - A Change of Routine Can Make You Feel Better

A Good Night’s Sleep Can Make All The Difference

Most people spend at least a third of their life in bed, if you have chronic back pain, the first thing you need to do is to be certain you have a back friendly bed. Muscle relaxation is an important part of therapy for back pain. A firm bed is the best choice. Try to sleep on your back or on your side. A waterbed can be a good choice if you add the proper amount of water. It can actually be therapeutic as the heat of the water may keep your back limber as you sleep, but if the bed has too much or too little water, it probably won’t help at all. When you wake up, stretch a little bit before you get out of bed, to limber up your body.

Think About What You Are Doing

Do not simply accept the fact that you have low back pain, think about it. One of the best back pain relief tips is to think about what you were doing that caused you to have back pain. Did you move too quickly? Pick up something that was too heavy? Had you eaten? Were you dehydrated? When you are doing something as simple as sitting down or changing your direction, you need to be mindful of how you do it. And when you are picking up something, use the proper lifting techniques; never allow your back to do the work. If you miss meals or do not drink enough water, you allow your body to become fatigued and dehydrated, and it is more susceptible to damage. Even sitting in one position for too long can result in back pain. To find relief from chronic low back pain, you will have to think about what you are doing and adjust your routine.

Develop a Good Exercise Routine

While it is always tempting to remain still to keep from experiencing pain, that is not a good idea. The joints and muscles will only stiffen up and hurt that much more when you do finally move. Physical activity is good, you need to move and exercise will help to strengthen and stretch the back muscles. Just remember to use moderation. Begin by going for a walk, start out slowly and then gradually walk a little faster and go a little further. Remember to try and maintain good posture as you walk. When you begin exercising to relieve back pain, you will be surprised at how much better you feel. Once you get used to getting more exercise, you can incorporate swimming, climbing stairs or even cycling into your physical training exercise.

The only way to cure back pain is to look at your lifestyle. Decide what things you can change, and what will help in your rehabilitation. And just as you kept note of what made your back ache, keep note of what is making you feel better. And remember relaxation and exercise is key to self rehabilitation for back pain.
