The chronic sciatica is a common disease that is related to the sciatic nerve. Sciatica causes a chronic pain and irritation in the sciatic nerve. Usually the pain travels from the thigh to the calf muscles; sometimes it can also travel up to the buttocks and lower down to the feet. The compression of the sciatic nerve or the root nerve causes the problem of sciatica. Sciatica is also caused in pregnant woman due to the compression of the sciatica nerve. There are several reasons that can cause sciatica. It can be prolonged sitting habits, lack of exercise, obesity, and pregnancy; also the lack of elasticity and overlooking of stretching exercises can cause sciatica.

When this sciatica pain does not subside for two to three months then it takes the form of chronic sciatica pain. This chronic sciatica can cause severe physical and mental disorders to the patient and the patient can end up on the bed for a long time. Chronic sciatica pain can cause damage to the nervous system and can play havoc on the body of the patient.

There are various methods to cure the problem of chronic sciatica pain. One can go in for surgery, have medicines or use other pain management techniques.

Surgery is considered as a long term measure by some but it on the whole is not a final solution. Sciatica can be cured with by using surgery but it can serve the long term goal of keeping the patient fit.

Medicines are also prescribed for patients suffering from chronic sciatica pain . But these medicines sometimes cause addiction and the life of the patients becomes utterly dependent on them. Other alternative methods such as acupressure, acupuncture, naturoapathy etc are considered much better than surgery and medications. They cure a patient and allow him to regain the same level of fitness once again.
