Back pain is a type of annoying disorder doctors normally hear about frequently and is mostly ubiquitous in developed countries. Back pain is the second principal cause of work absenteeism. Studies on back pain disorder show that early aggressive treatment of back injuries by a psychiatrist results in quicker recovery and fewer lost work days. Yet the fact is that, medical science is uncertain as to what causes it.

Back pain is considered to be one of the main symptoms of preterm labor and is the second most common reason for a visit to the physician. By far the most common causes of lower back pain are mechanical which are caused by disc degeneration, muscle or ligament strain. But also back pain can sometimes be caused by a disorder with the kidneys. It is usually more severe occurrence than sciatica pain or leg pain. Sciatica pain is usually the out come of a pinched nerve and occurs when a protruding disc is putting much pressure on a spinal nerve. It is severe pain anywhere in the lower back form the neck. Most of the back pain is related to activity and overuse of the muscles that are in the back.

Back pain can also occur severely during sporting events if a person has an injury during practice or game. But the fact is that, not all low back pain is actually due to a problem in the lower back; there are conditions when back pain is caused by a problem with the hip joint or musculature. But back pain it can also be caused by arthritis, fracture, disc problems, or bony malalignment. Back pain is also considered as the most difficult conditions to diagnose. Because only around 5 percent of back pain cases can be detected with conventional imaging procedures, clinicians attempting to diagnose and treat usually must rely on what the patients tell them about the condition. In the United States acute low back pain which is also known as lumbago, is the fifth most common reason for all physician visits.

Lower back pain strongly affects the portion of the back known as the lumbar spine, and causes people to spend large amount of money on treatments. Back pain is also the top reason for physical disability on the job, and causes a high percentage of absences from work. It is often more common for those people who are carrying extra body weight and being overweight can make back pain a whole lot worse, as there is a lot more stress on the back. When there is excess fat found in the stomach area, this can cause even more stress on the lower back. Common conditions for lower back pain include sciatica, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, slipped discs, back sprains, strains and fractures. Normally the back pain extends from the lower back region into the buttock and down the leg past the knee on the affected side, indicating sciatica. Sneezing, coughing, straining, or bending over suddenly while keeping the legs straight can trigger the sharp, radiating pain. When people feel any kind of back pain, they would try and consult their doctor as soon as possible because back pain is a major cause of disability in among the people.
