There are many reasons for hip pain, and it is important to make an accurate diagnosis so that the appropriate treatment can be used. Reasons for hip pain range from common injuries to degenerative diseases.

If you are experiencing hip pain, your doctor can investigate the underlying reason for your hip pain, so if your are experiencing hip pain anywhere in either hip make an appointment with your doctor and find out the reason for your hip pain.

Let抯 take a look at the Major Reasons for Hip Pain:

Osteonecrosis桹steonecrosis is when the blood flow to a certain area is restricted. When a bone, such as the hip bone, does not receive enough blood flow, the cells will perish and the bone will eventually collapse. The hip joint is one of the most common places where osteonecrosis occurs, therefore making it one of the most common reasons for hip pain.

Trochanteric Bursitis桾his condition, otherwise known as hip bursitis, is commonly seen in athletes. When the bursal sac in the hip becomes inflamed, typically due to running, pain ensues.

Osteoarthritis 桝nother one of the most common reasons for hip pain is arthritis.?General wear and tear causes this degenerative disease, which wears away the cartilage of the joint. Typically affecting those over the age of 50, osteoarthritis may actually cause so much pain, the patient will walk with a limp. If conservative (non-surgical) methods of treatment are not effective, hip replacement surgery may be recommended by a surgeon.

Hip Fracture桯ip fractures are the most common reasons for hip pain in elderly people, and generally are the result of a fall. When a hip is broken, it requires surgery to repair the broken bone with metal screws or plates, or replace the broken bone altogether. Hip fractures can be very debilitating. Less than 50% of people who suffer from hip fractures ever return to high-level activities.?

Treatment for hip pain varies depending upon the condition of the individual patient. However, most hip pain can be treated with conservative measures. Many doctors will prescribe Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like ibuprofen (Advil), (Do Not use Aspirin) to reduce swelling and ease the pain. Others will recommend hip joint injections to numb the pain.

Talk to your doctor about all of the different reasons for hip pain. Perhaps your reason for hip pain can simply be treated with sufficient rest and relaxation.
