When a person is experiencing back pain, it can be hard to cope on a day-to-day basis. Many individuals have pains in their backs for various reasons. Sometimes it a chronic condition while other times it is a result of a pull or a twist. So many adults experience this malady that it is one of the most common excuses employees give for missing time at their jobs. Fortunately, there are steps to take other than surgery to cope and create a feeling of wellbeing in one's life. Here are some things to think about:

Symptoms that may occur: Symptoms vary depending upon the individual cases. Severity may be moderate to quite painful. There may be a shooting pain in the region as well as in legs or hips. The discomfort could include aching muscles and often reduces the ability to stand up straight for a long period of time. It may be necessary to go to a physician for treatment if the pain is extremely severe or lasts more than a couple of days.

Signs of additional complications: If there are certain red flags present, there may be more going on medically than a pulled muscle. Some signs that there is serious trouble lurking include the presence of a fever, bowel or bladder difficulties, the sensation becomes more severe while lying down or is causing weak or numb feelings in other areas. If any of these red flags are showing up, it's time to call the doctor.

Remedies: There are various methods of remedying the back pain including physical therapy, chiropractic adjustment, exercise, lifestyle changes and medications. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to alleviate the suffering.

Physical therapy: Because body mechanics and posture play a role in the emergence of painful backs, a physical therapist can design a program to strengthen core and other muscles that will relieve the difficulties.

Chiropractic adjustment: Chiropractors manipulate the spinal column to reduce pressure on nerves. These manipulations may realign the spine and lesson the problem.

Exercise: Some exercises help strengthen the adjoining muscles and relieve pressure in certain areas on a body. Yoga is good for developing flexibility and easing discomfort in many tight spots.

Lifestyle changes: Sometimes a person's stress load is causing physical symptoms such as backaches. Getting rid of stressors or learning to cope through meditation, journaling, support groups and eating a healthy diet can all surprisingly curtail lower back problems.

Medications: Pain pills or muscle relaxers are good temporary fixes when the going gets tough. Patients must be conscious of developing other coping mechanisms in their lives, as well, because becoming dependent on medicine can lead to another set of problems.

Surgery: There are various back surgeries that may be performed in extreme cases. Surgical procedures include fusions, removal of vertebra or disk.

Back pain is a difficult malady to contend with. Luckily, there are various methods for alleviating the discomfort. Practicing prevention such as adopting a healthy lifestyle, picking heavy loads up with proper posture and wearing a supportive device while lifting substantial weight can all help.
