9/23 11:06:39

Back pain is a common ailment that affects majority of the population. Though causes of back pain differ from people to people, back pain is something that people have experienced at some point in their lives. Of the different kinds of back pain such as neck pain, upper back pain, lower back pain, tailbone pain and so on, lower back pain is the one that 80% of the people experience the most. Still no proper back care precautions are taken to prevent low back pain.

An understanding of the human backbone or the vertebral column is necessary to discern the exact cause of lower back pain. The backbone is actually a bony canal consisting of more than 30 bones called vertebrae that surround and protect the spinal cord.  Muscles, tendons and ligaments hold the vertebrae together. Through the spaces in the vertebrae, innumerable nerves enter and exit the spinal cord.  The intervertebral disks that exist between the vertebrae act as shock absorbers and thereby prevent the vertebrae from hitting one another when people walk, run, jump, twist, bend or extend. Since it is the lower back that carries most of the weight of the body, any false move creates a lot of stress in the lower back resulting in pain.

Types of Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain can be classified into non-specific low back pain, nerve root pain or Sciatica, Cauda Equina syndrome, Osteoarthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Rheumatoid arthritis and so on. Of these the most common type of low back pain is Non-specific low back pain.

Non-specific Low Back Pain

Non-specific low back pain is what that affects majority of the people. This kind of back pain is referred to as non-specific because it is difficult to diagnose the exact cause and location of the pain. However, causes of non-specific low back pain would never be a serious problem or disease of the back or spine. Sprain and strain are found to be the common causes of non-specific low back pain.

Sprain is the injury on the ligament caused by the stretching of the ligament beyond its capacity causing the ligament to tear. Whereas strain is the injury on the muscles or tendons caused by the overstretching of the same resulting in muscular-fiber tears.

Sprain and strain occur due to many reasons such as over lifting, excessive body weight, poor posture, poor sleeping posture and so on.

There is no specific treatment for this type of back pain. Those who suffer from low back pain are advised to keep active, and do normal activities as much as possible. However, the best way to get relief from low back pain is to get some rest by using back pain relief products. These systems provide a firm structure for safe, gradual conditioning of the spine and relief from lower back pain thereby making you feel better day after day.
