Help For Neck Pain

Technology has made our lives faster, more convenient and provides us with more entertainment options. However, computers can be a pain in the neck both figuratively and literally. The vast majority of jobs today require people to spend at least part of their time hunched over a computer.

Since your head weighs an average of 12 pounds, the slightest misalignment can cause neck strain and neck pain, not to mention, back pain and headaches. But you already know this. You are probably sitting at your computer right now looking for relief from your headache and neck pain. Believe it or not, there are some simple solutions to help your headache and neck pain go away for good!

Strengthen The Neck:

Over time the muscles of the neck can get weak. Add poor muscle strength to bad posture and the head drifts forward, putting pressure on the nerves. Strengthening the muscles of the neck along with maintaining good posture corrects the problem and neck pain vanishes.

Start by tilting the head side-to-side. Keep the head straight and tilt right, hold then tilt left. Make sure you don't tilt so far that your ear touches your shoulder. Repeat this exercise 5 to 10 times.

Next, tilt the head front-to-back. Slowly tilt your head forward as far as you can go and hold for a few seconds. Then slowly tilt your head back until you are looking at the ceiling. Hold again for a few seconds. Repeat 5 to 10 times.

Finally, rotate your head from side to side. Slowly turn your head to the right as far as you can comfortably go and hold for a few seconds. Then carefully turn your head to the left and hold for a few seconds. Repeat the exercise 5 to 10 times.

Get a Massage:

Sometimes, the muscles of the neck are just too tense and too misaligned to experience relief. This is where a good neck massage works great. Heated oils relax the muscles while the massage therapist kneads the knots away. After a short massage, the neck muscles relax and the pain melts away. For a good massage, find a local chiropractic center that offers massage, chiropractic offices generally offer more holistic healing then a massage clinic.

Chiropractic:
A chiropractor can offer more than just spinal manipulation. They can also offer massage, physical therapy, electronic stimulation, nutrition guidance and support aides. Electronic stimulation feels like a comfortable muscle contraction. Depending on the settings, the muscles may contract simultaneously or alternatively for approximately 15 to 30 minutes. The machine has little pads that attach to your neck and through a gentle pulse cause the muscles to contract.

If neck adjustments are going to be made, they will be made after the electronic stimulation or massage. Adjustments are done through quick movements that realign the vertebrae in the neck and back. The familiar popping sound is the release of gases and is perfectly safe. The pressure in the neck and back is relieved and the vertebrae are then correctly aligned, relieving the pain.
