Supporting the 10 - 12 pounds weight of our head is our neck, which has seven minute vertebrae. Our neck also suffers from tension acquired from sitting for long hours and continuous work. Another stress that the neck has to endure is the movement of our head in almost all angles. All of these stresses lead to rigidity and chronic pain on the neck. Persistent neck pain can develop neurological symptoms like tingling, loss of sensation and a "pins and needles" sensation. The symptoms are not merely concentrated on the neck but are also experienced in the arms and fingertips.

Any neurological symptoms indicate the worsening of the neck pain. It normally starts with rigidity followed by continuous sharp pain.

Neck pain is experienced by a lot of people and it can be worrisome. A doctor can help lessen neck pain temporarily by prescribing analgesic or pain relievers but this is only momentary. He may also recommend for you to have an x-ray to identify the exact source of the pain.

Surgery may be recommended if he found any health issues on your neck, a procedure that is quite expensive, painful and require a long recuperating period. You may opt to have the surgery but agreeing to have the operation removes other options (conservative or effective).

I would suggest that you go to a chiropractor for your neck pain instead to a medical doctor. Chiropractic care can alleviate your neck pain and may even lead to its elimination. Aside from that, chiropractic treatment does not give you any side effects and is cheaper unlike surgery.

On your first visit to a chiropractor, you will be asked when the neck pain started, any drugs taken or actions done to reduce the pain and if there are some body parts that contributed to the neck pain or if it radiates to other body parts. He will also ask other information related to the occurrence of the neck pain.

This will be followed by a physical examination and may suggest that you have some diagnostic procedures like x-ray, orthopedic tests, laboratory tests and neurological tests. The results from all these examinations will help the chiropractor to finalize his diagnosis so he will be able to have a chiropractic plan that is exclusive in your case.

The usual treatment given by a chiropractor for neck pain is known as neck adjustment. This is another form of spinal manipulation that is exact and is very effectual in assuaging neck pain and to eliminate it totally.
