February Is American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, and unfortunately, most of us know someone who has had heart disease or stroke. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States; one in every three deaths is from heart disease and stroke, equal to 2,200 deaths per day. These conditions are also leading causes of disability preventing people from working and enjoying family activities. Cardiovascular disease is also very expensive-together heart disease and stroke hospitalizations in 2010 cost the nation more than $444 billion in health care expenses and lost productivity. However, we can fight back against heart disease and stroke.

Symptoms of heart disease often include chest pain, nausea, dizziness, palpations, increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, Neck Pain Fort Lauderdale, indigestion like symptoms, and shortness of breath. Unfortunately, these symptoms can be silent as well and often go undetected until it is too late. The medical approach calls for drug therapy including drugs like, Diuretics, Beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, and Vasodilators. None of these drugs address the cause of the problem. They will lower blood pressure, block the pain, or restore a normal heart rhythm but the toxic effects of the drugs are often more damaging than the symptom itself.

Receiving regular Chiropractic adjustments will ensure a healthy connection from the brain to your heart as well as other organs in the body. Heart diseases such as many other diseases are caused by a subluxation, which is a misaligned bone out of place in your spine. When you have a subluxation, your body can not function at its full potential and thus disease can form.

Chiropractic adjustments also have had a significant effect on blood pressure and anxiety levels, according to a study reported in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. The study examined systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels and patients' anxiety levels before and after an adjustment. In all cases, those subjects who received active treatment experienced a distinct drop in blood pressure and a decrease of their anxiety levels. Results of this study provide evidence that chiropractic treatment offers support to the cardiovascular system. So the next time your doctor says to you that you have high blood pressure and wants to put you on Lipitor, go see a chiropractor and receive the care you deserve.
