Ron is a 57 year old male reports pain starting in the left hip about five years ago.  The pain came on gradually with periodic sharp sensations experienced mostly at night while in bed.  The pain has gotten worse over the years and is now severe.  A scan revealed advanced osteoarthritis of the left hip joint.  He is interested in prevention of hip replacement.
Examination revealed stiffness, tightness of the hip joint, and hardening of the surrounding hip muscles.  The hip joint also felt colder to the touch than the other hip joint indicating restriction of circulation through the affected tissue.
Treatment was started with reported easing of pain within the first week.  By the second week there was much improvement in energy and the hip pain felt sharper and more intense.  Starting with week three, the hip pain began to resolve and continued to get better each week until the pain was completely gone.  There is now much more flexibility in both hip joints and the patient is extremely happy to (1) get rid of the pain (2) avoid hip replacement surgery in the future.
Conclusion:  The patient progressed from severe left hip osteoarthritis, hip pain and hip tightness to full resolution of symptoms. He has also experienced more circulation through both hips thus preventing possible pathology in the other hip and prevention of hip replacement as the arthritis progressed.

Hip Pain Treatment by Dr. Ronald Mullen

Hip pain is usually associated with medical conditions such as hip osteoarthritis and/or Pirifomis syndrome.  Patients usually also experience hip stiffness, cold hip and cold leg.  Those sufferings usually also lead to difficulty to fall in sleep.  Many patients with hip osteoarthritis choose hip replacement surgery to resolve hip pain.  The surgery may eliminate the pain, but other associated symptoms may persist.
Based on my clinical experience, I have found that the hip pain can be treated without surgery.  In my opinion, the key issue in treating hip pain is to address the root cause which may be a compromised blood circulation in the hip area.  Successfully resolving the restricted blood circulation to the hip area is the key to my clinical success.
1) Mild and moderate hip pain:
Within two weeks of the treatment, patients can experience the change to the hip from cold to warm, from stiff to soft and from pain to pain free. Patients should experience improvement from the start of treatment.
2) Chronic hip pain or hip pain in severe condition:
Patients with this condition have already passed the acute stage of pain. Their hip pains have become dull/numb pains. During the initial 2-3 weeks of treatment, patients will experience their dull/numb pains changing to a sharp pain, which is due to the temporal reversal of the initial disease progression. In other words, patients may report their hip pain has become more intense, or that their hip pains are worsening. As treatment continues, the pain starts to subside and eventually disappear.
