You woke up one day and felt a discomfort at your back. You shrugged your shoulders thinking it will just go away. Anyway, you have a very busy life to think about the nagging back pain. Weeks have passed and the painful sensation at your back keeps on bothering you. But maybe it could wait for a few more days after your work and other activities. Not! having back pains is how your body is telling you that something is wrong with the way you are managing your body and that you should not ignore it as something trivial.

Many attributes back pain to poor posture. This holds true if you do not maintain proper sitting, standing, and walking positions. Body mechanics is essential if you do not want to strain any of your muscles. Your back is made up of many muscles and bones that diligently carry the weight of your whole body since the back is part of your center of gravity. Doing body mechanics religiously, like bending your knees in carrying something heavy, can prevent your back pain. Remember that muscle strain causes that pain you might be having at your back.

Sedentary lifestyle. Due to various reasons, you can be guilty of not giving your body the proper stretching and exercise it requires. You have many muscles in the body and they need toning and resistance regularly to keep them in their top most shape. When you muscles are given sudden load or stretch, they tend to become sore. This is because they were not prepared enough to handle activities. Muscles work together mostly as a group to help you move about so your back muscles is literally networked to your other limbs. If you stick with a regular fitness routine, your muscles will be active and happy to stretch and move with you and it ensures smooth movements on your part.

Wearing high heels or uncomfortable shoes. This is obviously for women only although men should also check the shoes they wear. For women, yes, those expensive stilettos can be real killers. Wearing them can distort your center of gravity giving strain to your back and feet too. Refrain from walking on high heels the whole day and bring with you flat shoes to lounge around the office when you do not have to look dressed to kill. Park your high heels when not necessary and find the best match for your foot wear as much as possible.

Being overweight. Having too much weight can literally bring you down. The weight of your body is being balanced mostly in your spinal joints and muscles and having too much to bear can stress your back. Lessen your wight so your back pain would not occur.

Quit smoking. Yes, you do not have to hear all over again the bad effects of smoking to your health. All you need to know is that smoking damages joints and bones- and that includes your back.

There are other contributing factors for back pain. But knowing at least a handful of the possible causes could give you a head start in planning your plan for overcoming back pain.
