General Causes Of Lower Back Pain

Commonly lower back pain can be caused by many factors, just getting out of bed too quickly, dropping something on the floor and quickly picking it up on the wrong angle can generate a pulling in the muscle or nerve and the pain can be excruciating.

So lower back pain does not necessarily mean a condition, such as long term pain caused through a slipped disc in the spine or from spinal injuries, lower back pain is normally associated with as above a sudden pulling of the muscle or a pinched nerve or something milder like a kidney which has been effected by a cold temperature.

Normally a person will suffer this pain on either the left side or the right, however if it’s more central then it is more likely to be a cold to the kidney/kidney’s.

Here are the Likely Causes of Lower Back Pain:

A person could be overweight and therefore fitness could be an issue. If an overweight person suffers from pinched lower back nerves often, then this will almost certainly be the reason.
Sitting for long periods of time in the same position with an arched back will certainly be a reason for pain as well. Generally though with some careful slow exercising for ten minutes or so, this condition will pass without too much more discomfort.

Office conditions where someone is sitting most of the day in front of a computer for example will cause lower back pain for sure. Make sure you stand up and take a walk around for awhile every two to three hours. Also, if possible do some stretching exercises for relief.

Take a good look at your sitting position. Your chair may be a cause, so, make sure you have a chair to suit good posture.

Also, make sure that everything is positioned at head height so that you are not sitting for long periods looking straight down – say working on a keyboard. Position the keyboard if possible at chest height. There are plenty of computer stores that sell furniture for this reason.

Infections can be a cause for lower back pain. These infections may be neuralgia (a pain that follows the path of a nerve. Symptoms: Impaired function of affected body part due to pain, or muscle weakness due to motor nerve damage; Increased sensitivity of the skin or numbness of the affected skin.)
Osteomyelitis – An infection that may spread to the spine from infected skin, muscles or tendons. Can also be caused by a past injury or possibly from bone injury especially if metal plates have been implanted.
Stress and fractures – Either past or new
Spinal abnormalities caused by such things as one leg been longer than the other.
Cancer of the bone and spine, constricting the nerve
Pregnancy, whereby the spine is thrown out of alignment temporarily
Lower back pain will generally last for two to three days if it is simply a pinched nerve or cold from the kidney. There are some excellent pain relievers available from your drug store to take care of the pain, however, it is suggested that you see a doctor if the pain hasn’t naturally relieved itself after five days.
