If you suffer from gout you probably already know that your diet can have an impact on your symptoms. There are foods that you will be able to eat and foods that you should avoid. It is important that you discuss with your doctor the best diet for gout prevention for you.

The foods you will be allowed to can be fun. Although, typically men have problems with adjusting to he change in diet because they seem to enjoy having the foods that are the list to avoid. The guidelines for these diets can be a bit demanding, however you can modify your eating to include some of these foods in moderation. There are medications that your doctor can prescribe for you that will help the pain and discomfort from the gout.

Purine rich foods are the ones that you should avoid. Excessive amounts of purine can lead to the increased production of uric acid. The uric acid they begins to crystallize and deposit around the joints. Generally, the first area to begin having signs of gout is the big toe. Avoiding foods that are high in purines such as liver is wise.

There are several foods that are very high in their purines. Among them are kidneys, hearts, tongue, shrimp, scallops, mackerel, and herring. It might seem as if the list just keeps getting longer of foods you can not have. This might actually make you feel like your options for food that is full of taste has just been thrown out the window. However, here are some fun ways you can enjoy variety and flavor in your meals for gout prevention.

1. Although you need to limit you caffeine intake, this does not mean you need to eliminate coffee or tea from your diet completely. If you notice that you are experiencing discomfort from having a cup of coffee, you can switch to decaffeinated. You also are not required to completely eliminate soda from your diet either. Just keep it to small amounts and sugar free whenever possible.

2. Many types of fish are on the avoid list, but you can still have salmon and tuna. There are many meals that you can make to include either of these. Making your possibilities for a different meal that is both flavorful and healthy for you.

3. Experiment a little with color. By keeping your plate full of color you will be less likely to be disappointed in your meals. For example, with your grilled salmon you can have a baked potato and pepper and onions, on the side a fruit bowl for dessert. Viola, the meal is full of flavor, vitamins and looks great.

Now that you have the basic idea of how to use your diet to limit your dealings with gout, you should realize you will not be missing good food with taste. Although you can still have some of the foods that are high in purines you should limit them to no more than two 6 ounce servings a week. If this seems to be giving you discomfort you should cut back even more or completely. Gout prevention can be a bit overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it you will soon find it is second nature.
