One of the most common types of arthritis is Osteoarthritis that affects the knee. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative progression where the cartilage of the joint gradually wears away, and often affects middle-age and older people. Osteoarthritis in the joins especially in the knees may be caused by excess stress on the joint such as repeated injury or being overweight. Rheumatoid arthritis can also badly affect the knees by causing the joint to become inflamed and by destroying the knee cartilage. Often Rheumatoid arthritis affects people at an earlier age than osteoarthritis.

After walking for long hours a day, five or six days a week for twenty years, may tear the patellar tendon, having surgery for that and just seeing the years fly by like all do, this is where one can found him or her self. Knee structure that were bone on bone, hurt all day and night if people are not taking some kind of pain killer every four or five hours. Surgeries of the knee are a bad word for most of the people suffering from knee pain. Most people would love to be able to try anything and everything before resorting to knee surgery. Fortunately, there are more and more non-surgical options available in knee arthritis all the time. Knee pain due to arthritis that is associated with arthritis recently has been getting lots of special attention.

One of the good options that have been used for all different types of pain is corticosteroid injections. With this alternative treatment the medication is injected directly into the knee joint. For most of the people, the joint pain relief brought about by the injection lasts for months. Certainly, the steroid in this case may produce some of the side effects usually seen with its oral counterpart; patients may have water retention, elevated blood sugar levels, and a greater chance of getting an infection. This treatment option is not 100% effective for each and every person or situation.

There are also a number of choices that do not involve needles at all. There are some healing creams on the market that many have been pleased with. One cream whose main component is Cetylated Fatty Acids, called Celadrin, has been involved in several university studies. The sufferers who have discovered this option have reported a significant amount of pain relief that was quickly achieved. Also it appears to become more and more efficient with continued use. If a cream is not to the taste, this is also available in a supplement form. Other natural alternative treatments like Lidocaine, found in a patch, and Capsicum have also become good alternatives for joint pain relief.

Sometimes even just an alteration in posture or function can bring joint pain relief. Some people find that a simple physiotherapy can work wonders. The reason a physiotherapy can be effective is that it can work to change the way the body distributes pressure on the knee joint. It is hard to believe that something as simple as an arch support can magically bring about pain relief in the knee joint, but it is true! Some people do find that they need something a little more involved and end up with a brace. The purpose of a knee brace is similar to that of the physiotherapy; it works to take pressure and redistribute it away from the portion of the knee causing pain.
