A majority of the medical community believe that any relief of the pain of arthritis and copper bracelets is the result of the placebo effect. The patient wants it to work and believes it will work and there, they feel as though it is healing their arthritis. While testing on the correlation of arthritis and copper bracelets is severely limited and no definitive connection has been recorded, there is a lot of history in the use of copper as a medicinal element.

During the 1970's, the use of copper for healing purposes reached a zenith and many people relied on word of mouth from friends and neighbors who were finding relief from arthritis and copper bracelets were most often given the credit. There were also claims made that the weight of the bracelet would diminish over time as proof the copper in the bracelet was being absorbed in to the body, moving its healing properties to the affected joints.

Today, copper is used in many fabrics to help form an antimicrobial shield against infection as well as to slow down the deterioration of the material into which it has been infused. Although a far different approach than connecting arthritis and copper bracelets for healing, the copper in the fabrics helps delay the natural decay of the cloth as well as the odors associated with rotting fabric.

Testing For Medicinal Benefit Essentially Halted

Although there are still those that hold firm to the belief that there is a strong connection between relief from the pain of arthritis and copper bracelets, there is little scientific study conducted to prove or disprove the theories. Most people that still wear their copper bracelets are convinced it has helped them overcome much of their arthritis discomfort and pay no attention to the lack of proof either for or against the notion.

Some doctors in the late 20th century used copper salts with their arthritis patients, injecting them in the joints that seemed to offer some relief, but this treatment never really advanced to a global option. However, for patients, if they can ease the pain of arthritis and copper bracelets are what they perceive to be the cure, they are not going to give them up.

Some are so strong in their beliefs in the connection between arthritis and copper bracelets for relief, that those suffering from arthritis in the digits are wearing rings laden with copper to help ease the pain in their hands.
