What is Cancer
Cancer is a disease in which cells multiply without control, destroy healthy tissue, and endanger life. There are about a 100 types of cancer that attacks us. Cancer strikes people of any age but the chances are more for the middle aged and the elderly.

How Cancer Develops?
Cancer develops as a result of abnormal cell reproduction. The body of an adult is made up of billion cells. Normal cells reproduce at exactly the rate required to replace the dying cells, never at a faster rate. Like normal cells cancer cells also reproduce by dividing.
Kinds of Cancer
The various cancers are classified into
By a cancer's primary body site- the site where the cancer develops
By the type of body tissue in which the cancer originates

Skin Cancer-
Skin Cancer grows very slowly and does not spread to any other parts of the body. So this cancer is easy to treat. However a special type of skin cancer called the malignant melanoma is particularly dangerous.

Cancers of the digestive organs
In this type of cancer the colon, the rectum, sometimes esophagus, liver, pancreas and stomach are affected.

Cancers of the respiratory system
This type of cancer involves the larynx and the lungs. Lung cancer is the more common of the two kinds.

Breast Cancer
Three fourth of the breast cancer occur in women aged 40 and above. Female breast cancer patients whose disease is found and treated have good rate of survival

Cancers of the Reproductive system
The male organ most often affected is the sex gland called prostate. The common cancer that affects women is the cancer of the childbearing organ the uterus. Most cancers of the Uterus affect the lower necklike part which is the cervix.

Cancers of the lymphatic systems
Cancer of the bone marrow and other blood forming organs is called leukemia. It involves the multiplication of immature white blood cells at the expense of vital blood elements.

Cancer of the Urinary System
This cancer occurs less often than the cancers of other major body organs. The bladder is the organ usually affected.

Causes of Cancer
The cancer causing agents are called Carcinogens which attack the normal human cells. Some Carcinogens are introduced into the body through the nose, mouth, or Skin some other opening.
Various Chemicals
Certain forms of radiation
Cigarette smoking is the main cause of lung caner.
Some industrial chemicals create a cancer hazard for people who work with them.
Some cancer including colon and breast occur among blood relatives.
The alteration of genes that control cell development may cause cancer.


Cancer Detection
There are seven warning signals of Cancer
An unusual change in the bowel or bladder habits
A wound which does not heal quickly
Bleeding or discharge in large quantity
Unusual lump in the body
Difficulty in swallowing food
Obvious change in the wart or mole
Nagging cough or hoarseness
