Fosamax- A Medicine From Bisphosphonates Group
9/22 15:18:31

Fosamax belongs to the group of medicines called bisphosphonates. It alters the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in the body and slows bone loss while increasing bones mass, which further prevent bone fractures. It is used to treat or prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis, steroid-induced osteoporosis and to treat pagets disease of bone. This medication is used in the treatment of weak bone by decreasing the activity of cells which break down bone. Maintaining strong bones by slowing bone loss helps to reduce the risk of fractures. It is marketed alone as well as in combination with vitamin D under the name Fosamax +D. To help your bone getting stronger you can buy fosamax and see the changes in your body.

Fosamax is used to treat osteoporosis (thinning of bone) in women after menopause. After menopause, there is an increased rate of bone loss (resorption). Risk of developing osteoporosis is greater as you age, after menopause due to the lack of natural estrogen hormones, and if you are taking corticosteroid medications (e.g., prednisone) for long periods. In these patients, fosamax has been shown to increase bone density while strengthening bone, and decrease the rate of bone fractures. It is also helpful in the treatment of Paget's disease of the bone. Paget's disease is characterized by a disorderly and accelerated remodeling of the bone, leading to weak bone.

This medicine comes with a patient information leaflet, which should be carefully read. This medication should be taken once a day, after getting up for the day and before taking first food, beverage or other medication.
