It抯 no wonder that generally, people hold doctors in high esteem. They invest many years and large tuition money to study all that could go wrong with a living thing, and how to cure it. When a doctor finally does get his slot in medicine, he earns more than enough if he handles his practice well. Not only that, his profession is nobly dedicated to literally making lives better by solving health and medical problems for patients and the general public. To top it off, it is general knowledge that one can抰 be a doctor without an admirable level of intelligence.

If we look at many notable Nobel Prize winners, the very useful contributions are those that involve further knowledge of health hazards and solutions, and also compassionate acts to helping the deprived. Combine these two factors and we come up with medical doctors.

Well, we all know that today there are numerous branches and fields of medicine. For whatever purpose, be it idle interest or serious career considerations, what are the 揵est?medicine areas a doctor could work on? Basis for this opinion or decision are factors mentioned above: income, degree of significance, and mastery/intelligence level required. Selflessness or compassion as well may be considered for nobler intentions.

Doctors who specialize are understandably more highly paid, since a more specific field of expertise means the doctor has focused studies and practice in this. Surgery specialists merit even higher pay, because the risk of invading a human body with instruments is way harder to learn mastery over, and very much in demand in medical cases or serious illness where families would pay more. Specialists are of course of above average intelligence, for them to have mastered a certain field.

This brings us to about three final possible fields. One involves daring to perform surgery on some of the most vital organs: heart and lung surgery. Willingness to take on the total responsibility of saving a life is selflessness, too, in this case. Another area is most beneficial for both the patient and the doctor as well: orthopedics, especially surgery. Injuries and disorders of the spine and limbs occur more often in nature than heart and lung defects. Many orthopedic problems occur in developing children, such as scoliosis and clubfeet, so we narrow this field further to pediatricorthopedic surgery. This field also has high success rates, since most pediatric orthopedic surgery situations are correctional and have the advantage of the ability of a child抯 systems to develop, recover and correct overall growth.

Next, geriatrics qualifies for a number of the criteria mentioned. Compassion for all humans must be strong in a doctor who chooses to master care of the elderly. These patients are expected to die sooner than later, yet loved ones continue to care for them and keep their company for as long as possible. Older adults have delicate, ailing systems; surgery on them therefore is risky and needs extra care, too.

This probably covers all bases in viewing and rating the different fields of medicine. Of course, opinions differ from person to person, and the decision for a career ultimately lies in the hands of the person himself. One last thing to remember is that even in ancient cultures, healers were revered only next to priests.
