Cancer

You can be a victim of cancer, or a survivor of cancer. It's a mindset - Dave Pelzer

The big C is the condition that everyone fears the most. Somehow it seems to touch us all. Cancer affects one out of every two men and one out of every three women.

But, there is hope! Thanks to recent progress including support from a myriad of charities, cancer survivors are increasing by the hundreds of thousands each year, roughly one in twenty adults.

From another perspective, in the 1940’s only one in four cancer patients survived on an average. In the 1960’s that number changed to one in three, and now the survival rate has gone up to 50% or one out of every two patients with cancer go on to survive this awful condition.

On top of this, one can now say that cancer is more preventable than ever. The four most common cancers, breast, prostate, colon and lung as well as cervical and skin, all have methods of prevention as well as easy methods for early detection.

In most cases, cancer is not a death sentence but is manageable like any other chronic medical condition.
