Most of us have experienced back pain muscle spasms at one point or another. A sneeze or a cough can easily cause middle back muscle pain in some people. On the other hand, people who are not used to lifting heavy objects may also suffer from painful muscle spasms when they try to move heavy objects around the house.

If you are planning to redecorate your home and you have a lot of heavy furniture to move around from one room to another, you better get someone to help move things around the house. Limit your lifting and heaving to smaller and lighter items to protect your back.

People who spend hours sitting on their desk may also suffer from back pain muscle spasms due to poor posture. In other words, even people who are sedentary are not immune for muscles spasm so if you think that you will not suffer from painful muscle spasms because you hardly move away from your chair the whole day, think again.

You are just as prone to muscle spasms as those people who lead active lives. In fact, there is a big possibility that you will suffer from more crippling back pain muscle spasms than those people who are active. You see, people who are active tend to have stronger and better toned muscles than you are so they are less likely to strain their muscles easily.

Dealing with Painful Muscle Spasms

Whatever may be the cause of the back pain muscle spasms, the result is almost always the same. You see, back pain muscle spasms can be quite intense that many people are often immobilized by the pain for quite sometime. In fact, a lot of people who suffer from intense back pain muscle spasms find it hard to move around for a couple of days or so.

If you suffer from back pain muscle spasms, stop what you are doing and try to relax. Lie down in a comfortable position and let the pain subside naturally. If you cannot lie down, try to take deep breathes and gently massage your aching muscles in a circular motion. You may also stretch your muscles gently to ease the pain.

Your muscles will feel sore with the next 48 to 72 hours after you experience intense back pain muscle spasms. To ease the soreness and the possible swelling in your muscles, apply gentle heat to the affected area every four hours. Heat therapy is very effective when it comes to relieving soreness and swelling brought about by muscles spasms.
