Question
Hello. I am a active young adult and my feet are now suffering which is never a good thing. Recently I have begin to notice that my heel right in the middle on the left foot is very tender when weight is applied and continues to persist. What might this be and how do I get rid of it quickly? Thank You
Leanna

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist says.....
Sounds like plantar fasciitis-also known as plantar fasciosis. May have some additional tissues and ligaments that are irritated. When you stop activity the tissues try to repair themselves by trying to "glue themselves" in a position that limits movement. As soon as you put weight on the area you tear the healing tissues-which causes the initial pain. As you move around the body lubricates itself and the tissues begin to feel better. However the continued standing movement and standing re-injures the tissues after a few hours and the pain intensifies.
PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Protect-wear a supportive shoe or gym shoe while walking and try to protect the arch and wrap it good so it doesn't move. Check out our website for a post-op/surgical shoe-at our online store- www.AnkleNFoot.com
Rest-walk less and take a break every few hours and stretch
Ice-on and of as much as possible for 3 days almost constantly and then as necessary for pain
Compress-Mild ace wrap the area-which will also protect. Do this a lot
Elevate-if it throbs elevate sooner.
After the injury quiets down in a week or so-physical therapy will help.
Max dose of Alleve or Advil for 3 days, then decrease dosage over the next 3-4 days. Stop if it bothers you or if you have stomach problem
Check out our website AnkleNFoot.com for additional info on plantar fasciitis.
If you want to try something before you see a podiatrist, you can try arch supports and a night splint from our store. Our products are medical grade and priced competitively. But if you don't get relief within a few days of trying the above then find a sports medicine podiatrist

We are located in Chicago and do second opinions.
Good Luck!
Hope this helps!
