Question
After several months of taking lipitor I developed a sharp pain in my hip. I stopped taking it and had no pain. My Dr switched me to Crestor and again I have taken it for about 3 months and I get a pain in my hip. sometimes it is OK sometimes very mild but other times it is a very sharp pain. Could this kind of pain come from these drugs? Is there any other type of medication my Dr could prescribe that wouldn't cause this? I do plan on seeing him again and I don't know what he will prescribe next, but I would like another opinion.

Answer
Hi Gary,

Your question is really not in my line of expertise, but I'll answer in brief.
Leg pain is a symptom that is common to many medical conditions and proper examination is needed to determine its source. Both medications you have been taking can cause leg pain through several mechanisms. One potentially serious mechanism is muscular damage (termed Rhabdomyolysis). If you still have leg pain I suggest you contact your physician and not wait for the next scheduled visit.
