QUESTION: Am paraplegia,i had an accident 3yrs ago,T12 -L1 below the abdomen,my question is this Can i have sex if YES what can i use to make it effective to enjoy my gf who understands me alot and we both looking for solutions to it,what about kids can i have kids,if YES what can i do,am from West Africa and we dont have good hospitals or capable doctors like yours in USA that can give full medical advice on this which i have seeked but no good response, please i need a detailed info on this and i ask others..thanks and God Bless..Tunji

ANSWER: Dear Tunji,

If you are newly injured they may be able to extract sperm from you and when your ready for children your girlfriend can be artificially inseminated with your sperm. As for having sex, women find oral sex quite pleasurable. And there are medications that can give men erections and they also have an injection you can use too. I think you would get a more definitive answer if you contacted Dr. Orr, contact him at address or phone number below. If he doesn't know all the answers I'm sure he can tell you who can. I hope this helps, sincerely, Ken

Answer
Dear Tunji,

If you do not take blood pressure medications you can certainly try those medications, make sure you follow the directions.

I use a Bisacodyl suppository every other day with digital stimulation. By getting yourself on a routine you can better control your bowels. As for your bladder, I use a Supra-pubic catheter and it works for me. But seeing your a paraplegic you could use either intermittent catheterization or an indwelling catheter. The Supra-pubic is indwelling, it is inserted into your bladder through your stomach.

There is no e-mail that I am aware of, either write or call, I'm sorry but that is how I contact him.

I hope this helps,
         Ken
