Chest Pain Underneath right rib cage

Question
HI Doctor,
I am a twenty-year-old female who is 4 and 1/2 months pregnant. I have complained to my doctors about a pain underneath my right rib cage but they don't seem to care. (I have med-ical) They at first said  that I was suffering from indigestion since pregnancy can make you more sensitive to greasy and spicy foods. So I haven't eaten any greasy or spicy foods in 3 weeks and the same crushing pain is there. It feels like a heavy bruise that won't go away. It hurts so much that after sitting up or standing up for longer than 30minutes I have to lay down. Only laying flat on my back seems to ease the pain. I don't think it has anything to do with my pregnancy although my doctors just tell me that it's normal my body is changing. I have had this pain now for two months and laying down every 30 minutes is not going to accomplish anything in my busy schedule. Do you have any recommendations or possible reasons other than pregnancy that this pain is present? Oh, by the way it doesn't hurt when I touch it it just hurts all the time. Thank you in advance!

Answer
Hi Rachel and thanks for writing,

There are many things it could be; Gallbladder pains are common in that area after fatty meals and can radiate up to your shoulder. No one can diagnose over the internet so I suggest you go back to your doctors or a clinic until one takes you seriously and runs some tests - beyond that I can't start to guess what it might be.

Good luck,

Margot
