Question
Knee pain, I'm a cheerleader.
So I have pain in my left knee, if I keep it bent for a while it hurts when I try to walk & stand up. There is also a cheer for cheerleading that we do which involves us to go on our toes and move our knees back and forth so you kinda rock back and forth that also hurts my knee. Other times it just happens when I'm walking..I have already iced it and when we do that cheer I don't move that knee.. So I really don't know what else to do, and my parents won't take me to see a doctor because it doesn't seem very serious..So what should I do?

My mom won't take me to a doctor, I've had this pain for a month & she still won't take me, I've asked to get a brace for my knee & she didn't want to get me one. I also tell her when it's hurting she just blows it off.

The pain is on my left knee on the left side right under the kneecap, it occasionally happens to my right knee to on the left side under the knee cap, should I go to a doctor, or get a knee brace?

Hello, Kali,

Your symptoms are typical of tight hamstrings.  It's a matter of reconditioning your control of them (not of stretching them), as I write in the following entry.

http://somatics.com/hamstrings-and-knees.htm

This entry explains how tight hamstrings lead to knee pain and what you can do about it.

Meanwhile, I think a family meeting is in order to address your Mom's attitude toward your pain.  She lacks compassion and that issue may also trouble your Dad.
