Question
10 years ago I had facial nerve decompression surgery. Long story short, it was a burst blood clot. But, that surgery opened my head and left me with a plate in the side of my head. I am having pain where the stitches were put in. This pain has been on/off for the past few years. At times it is so bad I cannot even put my head on the pillow. I told my family DR and he sent me for a head x-ray because I had mentioned the metal in my head. Since the x-ray confirmed there was metal, that was the end of the tests, etc. What should be my next step? Is this something I should just learn to live with? The pain seems be be only where the stitches were, along the scar line.
thanks.

Hi, Victoria,

There's a universal response to injury, as which surgery qualifies: it's to contract the musculature in a cringe response, which leads to muscle soreness.

Yours is a rare situation, so I have to make something up for you.

this:
Deliberately tighten your scalp/and jaws, as if to cause sensation in exactly that place, which will engage muscles at the site of pain.  Very slowly relax.  Repeat.

If it's neuromuscular pain, it will fade out with repetitions.

If it helps but doesn't get it all, contact me, again with a report and I may be able to recommend a more extensive self-relief program.  I suspect your neck muscles are also involved.
