Question
i was wondering if chiropractic could help with respitory problems? i have charcot-marie-tooth which is a neuropathy and am in a wheel-chair, i know being in a chair doesnt help, but was wondering if adjustments could help with the lungs and diaphram, and respitory.

Answer
Julie,

Thanks for the question and I hope that I can help.  I am very sorry about your condition, but it sounds to me like you are doing all you can to take care of yourself and that this little problem is not going to slow you down.

I have had good success with respiratory problems such as asthma and acute bronchitis.  By adjusting the spinal region in the thoracic spine, there is loosening of the spinal muscles which in turn seems to allow better ability for the rib cage to allow the lungs to expand and empty.  This is what I have seen with patients I have treated.  By allowing the middle back region to stay loose and flexible, the respiration is better.

I would recommend consulting with a chiropractor in your area and finding out what they think about your situation.  I would suggest a thorough exam and x-rays to rule in/out and complicating factors or contraindications to chiropractic care.  I hope that this helps and if you have any additional questions, please contact me via allexperts.com.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
