Question
Im 6 ft tall and about 190, and my wife is 5'2 and about 135 and we need a new bed desperatly.Currently we have a california king 12 yr old spring.  I cant take it anymore and shes been sleeping on the couch at least once a week (due to mattress).I've looked at the visco foam and spring mattresses but id like your opinion on what would you recomend. We are young and active(35) but i need my sleep to be safe at work.i was thinking a spring mattress with a visco top of a bout 4" and wondered what you would recomend and do you have a favorite manufacturer?

Answer
Chad,

Thanks for the question and you are right on.  You must have your sleep.  Sleep deprivation or poor quality sleep leads to a ton of health, physical and mental/emotional problems.

With that said, in my opinion a mattress is much like a shoe.  It must fit properly to work right, but it is also a matter of personal choice.  I prefer the Tempurpedic viscoelastic foam mattresses.  The benefits are tremendous.  I know that they are expensive, but you will own your mattress longer than your car and you will spend, hour to hour, more time on that mattress than any other purchase you will make.

I recommend doing some serious shopping.  Lie down on as many mattresses as you can and find what is comfortable to you.  You will then probably require about a 2 week break in period.  But get out and get it as soon as possible. Get you and your wife some good sleep on a good mattress. Get something that is going to support your frame and allow your body to rest and heal overnight like it is meant to do.

I hope this helps.

God Bless,

Dr. Boss
