femoral artery/nerve blockage??

Question
Dr. Durnin,
For the past 48 hours, I have been having a strange "thundering" feeling in the Inguinal region where the femoral artery should lie. It is not painful, but feels like when your stomach gargles, but in an artery/vein.  (But then again, I am not sure exactly where it is happending, maybe it is the Femoral Nerve causing the symtoms??)  It has been happening once every 60 seconds or so. Could these be symptoms of an impending Femoral Artery blockage? I am a young, healthy and athletic female, but was diagnosed with SVT in 2000, and had an ablation to fix the problem in 2005. The right side is where I am currently having symptoms, and the right side is also where the surgeon entered to do the ablation.
Any additional information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lauren
p.s. I am currently a student of chiropractic, and am looking forward to what you think about this matter! I am always interested to get multiple opinions and see how they connect. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Lauren,

Congratulations on being a D.C.! I am sure you will make the profession proud!

As you stated in your question, two things are quite possible, auscultation over the artery (remember NAVL)- Nerve, Artery, Vein and Lymphatics order from lateral to medial- should reveal any bruits. A Doppler would be ideal and should catch it since it happens ever 60 or so seconds. Fasciculation from nerve conduction imbalances can feel vascular as well. If the vascular component is ruled out, easy enough, then it is neurological. If it is, there are many noninvasive remedies that help abate further episodes. Have a clinician auscultate the area to listen if it is vascular first, then peruse a neurological etiology.

Good Luck!
