How can a personal trainer help a chiropractor?
9/26 8:54:31

Question
What are the therapeutic modalities you use? Where would I, the personal trainer, fit into the chiropractor抯 rehabilitation practice?

Answer
Phil,

Prior to leaving my practice to enroll in medical school, I used moist heat, ultrasound, and intermittent mechanical traction on patients for whom those modalities were indicated.

The rehabilitation component of my practice involved instructing patients in specific self-care exercise protocols relative to their condition (for example, for disc herniations) to augment their in-office care.

When a patient desired specific or supervised advice regarding exercise, I would generally refer them to a personal trainer.

An in-office personal trainer/chiropractor relationship would be subject to the specific state laws governing scope-of-practice relationships. Depending on the state in which each professional practices, this may not be possible.

I hope that this answers your question.
