Question
Hi, I am 15 years old, still young, 5'7", and 180 lbs. I am quite freaked out by this hump that is at the base of my neck. It seems to me that it is from my spine, but I have no idea what to do about it. I am a powerlifter so at first I thought it was muscles doing it, but then I was thinking about it and I have had it for some time. I spend much time on the computer with reports and online reading but I try to sit up straight when I am on. My grandmother had this hump and so does my mother, but they are much older than I. If there is something I could do to fix this spinal curve I would like to know.

Answer
first of all that hump is called your vertebral prominans (spelling?) it is the largest spinous process of the spine and it is supposed to stick out. You may have it more pronounced then others. i would check your friends lower neck and you will see they have the same thing. it is also very possible that it protrudes more then normal. if this is the case i would raise your computer monitor so that the BOTTOM of the monitor is at eye level when you sit at your desk.
this should help a lot.
