Herbal Remedies: Roman Chamomile

Latin Name: Chamaemelum nobile

Uses: Inflammation, Pain 

Description: Chamomile is valuable for irritable bowel syndrome and gastritis, and for warding off colds due to exposure. Azulene, an important active principle in chamomile oil, has proven effective for fever and inflammation. The oil is used externally for cradle cap, wounds, and sore nipples and as a sedative. This variety of chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) is known as Roman Chamomile. German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is also used in herbal remedies . Other dose forms: As a tincture, 10-30 drops.

Part Used: Flowering Heads

Preparation/Dosage: 1-2 cups 2-3 x daily (Infusion)

Organs/Systems Affected: Nervous, Digestive
